On February 28th’s episode of KBS’s “Star Life Theater”, Smash talked about a letter Tony Ahn sent them while he was in the army. Group member Minkyu (Jerry) said that “At first we heard about Tony entering the army from his management and then he said ‘now you all should try to understand me’. But it wasn’t as easy as we thought it would be.” The group debuted in August 2008 under TN Entertainment and was produced by Tony Ahn himself. While the group was expected to get a good start, misfortune followed up shortly after their debut. When the president of the group’s label eventually left for the army, the group’s worries got deeper. Youngsuk (Naru) added that “Truthfully it was really frustrating [when Tony went to the army]. We thought a lot like, ‘What are we going to do’” and then sighed deeply. He reflected on that time and said “I can’t do anything but sigh” while laughing. Instead of heading back with a follow-up release, SMASH was sent to Japan and started off their career at a small shopping center stage, making a new start. Losing one of its members and becoming a five member group in the process, they eventually debuted with “Lunatic” at the end of 2010. After three years of Japanese activities, five singles and a full length album, the group has raised their name up the Oricon charts and are continuing to improve. Tony Ahn remarked on the matter that “These kids really don’t need to be working with such hardships. They could have gone to a better training program but they stayed for me. I have lots of people I need to repay”, and showed his appreciation for them. With his appreciation for the members, Tony Ahn started preparing for the group’s comeback and even hinted at a possible 2011 comeback earlier last year. While the initial plans didn’t go through, SMASH will finally be returning to the Korean music scene with a joint release later this week. “Get Your Swag On” by Tony Ahn & SMASH will be digitally released on March 2nd, while the physical copy will be available in stores starting March 5th. The jacket picture, tracklist and music video teaser were already revealed earlier this month.Source: Melon and smashboys
